The Basics

What is a Gaylord Box?

A gaylord box (also known as a bulk bin, pallet box, or tote box) is a large corrugated container designed to sit on a standard pallet. Typically measuring approximately 48″ × 40″ × 36″, these heavy-duty boxes can hold thousands of pounds of material.

Originally used in industrial and manufacturing settings, gaylords have become essential in logistics, recycling, agriculture, and retail operations. Their large capacity and pallet-compatible dimensions make them incredibly efficient for bulk handling.

At Arlington Boxes, we carry both used and new gaylord boxes in various wall strengths and configurations. Our used gaylords are inspected for structural integrity and offered at significant savings over new.

Guide

How to Choose the Right Gaylord

Consider Weight

Standard double-wall gaylords handle up to 2,000 lbs. For heavier loads, choose triple-wall (3,500+ lbs) or reinforced options.

Check Compatibility

Ensure the gaylord dimensions match your pallet size and fit your forklift or pallet jack. Standard 48×40 fits GMA pallets.

Evaluate Contents

Small items? Choose a full-bottom gaylord. Wet products? Consider a liner bag. Heavy parts? Go triple-wall.

Used vs New

For internal use, storage, and non-customer-facing applications, used gaylords save 50-67%. New is better for food-grade and high-visibility applications.

FAQ

Gaylord Box Questions

Why are they called gaylord boxes?

The name comes from the Gaylord Container Corporation, which was one of the first manufacturers to produce these large bulk containers. The name stuck and became an industry-standard term.

Can used gaylords be stacked?

Yes, but stacking ability depends on condition and wall strength. Our inspected used gaylords can safely stack 2-3 high when loaded within their rated capacity. Triple-wall gaylords offer the best stacking performance.

Do gaylords come with pallets?

Pallets are sold separately. We carry matching 48×40 used pallets that pair perfectly with our gaylords. Many customers order both together.

Can I sell my used gaylords back to you?

Absolutely. Our buy-back program pays $3-15 per gaylord depending on condition and wall type. We also pick up at your location for free on qualifying quantities.

Do you deliver gaylords?

Yes. We deliver gaylords throughout the DFW metroplex with our fleet of flatbed and box trucks. Liftgate service available for locations without loading docks.

What is the difference between 4-wall and 5-wall gaylords?

A 4-wall gaylord is the standard box shape with 4 sides. A 5-wall gaylord has an extra panel that increases depth and capacity. 5-wall gaylords are typically taller (40" vs 36") and hold more volume.

Need Gaylords in Bulk?

We offer volume discounts on large orders. Whether you need 10 or 1,000, we can fulfill your order.
